How FACT Organizes Meetings:

FACT primarily organizes meetings, social gatherings, group get-togethers, and upcoming organization events through its MeetUp group. It’s free and easy to join.  Meetup is an online social networking portal that facilitates offline group meetings in various localities worldwide, including here in Central Texas.

Meetup allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest,  Maybe you’ll find some other groups that share your interest!  Once you’re signed up, you’ll automatically be invited to all upcoming FACT happenings by receiving a quick and user-friendly e-mail.  FACT typically sponsors one or two monthly events, so there is no need to worry about clogging up your inbox!

What Does a FACT Event Look Like?:

Plan to arrive a little bit early – there’s social time, coffee, light afternoon sweet snacks, and new faces to welcome and get to know!

FACT events typically feature invited speakers hosting a discussion on an issue in their area of expertise.  The presentation is usually interactive, with questions and discussion included both during and after.  After the meeting, attendees typically linger and discuss their individual questions with the speaker and with each other.  Others leave to finish their weekend activities or enjoy nearby downtown activities.  It’s very informal and relaxed – come see for yourself!

Past topics have included:

  • Bioethics In a Rapidly Advancing Medical Field
  • Drought and the Edwards Aquifer
  • The Death Penalty – Its’ Effects and Effectiveness
  • The State of Women’s Healthcare in Texas
  • Religion in Baghdad, Beirut, and Damascus
  • Secular Legislative Involvement
  • Piano Concerts & Other Musical Performances
  • Film Viewings and Discussions
  • And many others.

We also meet monthly for breakfast, usually on the last Saturday at a local Denny’s.

For those in the Hill Country, the Texas Hill Country Freethinkers meet for lunch several times a month to discuss various topics, usually on Wednesdays.  The second Wednesday lunch of the month is always in San Antonio.

Some meetings have child-friendly activities and supervision for those too young to enjoy the main event – no need for a babysitter that afternoon!

We’re friendly and composed of all ages, from students to seniors, ladies, and gentlemen, with diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and, most of all, opinions!

An occasional discussion series meets for a European-style salon discussion once or twice a month on Thursdays, depending on interest and the time commitments of the organizers.
